Via Camerelle

Via Camerelle

Via Camerelle is a street in Capri, Campania, known as the island’s main shopping avenue. Formerly called Via Anticaglia, along its route stand the ruins of forty cisterns that once served as the foundation and terraces for the Roman road connecting Castiglione to the imperial villa of Tragara. The origin of the street’s current name—stretching from the small square near the Hotel Quisisana straight to the beginning of Via Tragara—is uncertain, and several theories attempt to explain its toponym.
