The Punta Carena Lighthouse is located on the island of Capri, on the headland of the same name, about 3 km southwest of Anacapri. The lighthouse has been in operation since 1867. Its construction began in 1862, based on a project by Bourbon engineers, and it is one of the largest and most powerful lighthouses in Italy, second only to the one in Genoa. The lighthouse is managed by the Italian Navy’s Lighthouse Zone Command based in Naples, which oversees all the lighthouses of the southern Tyrrhenian Sea, under the Capri jurisdiction.
