Via Krupp

Via Krupp

Via Friedrich Alfred Krupp, commonly known as Via Krupp, is one of the most famous roads on the island of Capri, connecting the historic center of the island with the seaside area of Marina Piccola. The German steel magnate Friedrich Alfred Krupp, while staying in a suite at the central Hotel Quisisana, was unable to quickly reach Marina Piccola, where his yacht was moored. He therefore purchased the entire area between the Certosa di San Giacomo and Castiglione and had the road built, which today bears his name. Because Capri’s rocks are made of limestone, Via Krupp has always been exposed to the risk of falling rocks. For this reason, the road has experienced several periods of closure, sometimes lasting many years. (source: Wikipedia)
